G’ma’s Oatmeal Bread
October 15, 2007 at 2:43 pm | In baked goods, breakfast |Last night I went snooping through my grandma’s recipes while she was away so that I could take pictures of the physical pieces of paper without her thinking I am completely nuts. While I find myself drawn to each stain (notice the three coffee cup stains towards the bottom? That’s my grandma!) and taped edge, I hardly believe she thinks twice when whipping this out. I really encourage you to try making this bread on a very cold day when you find yourself with nothing to do and the Bears have lost and the laundromat is too far away to provide you with a simple comfort like clean, warm clothes. As with most yeast breads, this one tastes best either fresh out of the oven, or toasted with butter the next morning.

That looks very much like my father’s recipe for oatmeal bread that I have very fond memories of him baking. It looks so much like that - down to the coffee stains and carefully typewritten ingredients - I can hardly believe it.
I have my grandmother’s, my father’s and my mother’s cookbooks - and many of my own since I’ve turned vegan.
I’m wowed at the similarity thank you for the memories!
Peace and bread.

best bread ever… but it’s honestly best not to eat it hot. let it cool some and breathe after it’s long bout in the oven.

i agree. it’s the best as toast. sidenote: the last 3 times i’ve been home mom has had this made. luckily i have another dentist appointment in two weeks, because it really does taste best when someone else makes it for you. just like coffee…
